Frank J. Callier Violin Maker | History, Instruments and Exhibitions

Frank J. Callier (1883-1971) was a master violin and bow maker whose craftsmanship left a lasting mark on American lutherie.Born in Perryville, Missouri, he began his violin-making journey in St. Louis before moving to San Antonio, Texas, in 1916.

In 1928, he established the Callier Violin Shop at 5906 W. Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, California. Over his prolific career, Callier crafted approximately 300 violins and thousands of bows, earning recognition as one of the most important bow makers in Los Angeles.
