Violin Bass Bar Crack | Varnish Cleanup and Restoration

This violin came into the shop with a bass bar crack that had been repaired previously. The area had been covered with a dark, heavy layer of varnish, seemingly in an attempt to disguise the damage. I first removed the unusual varnish so I could properly inspect the repair underneath. Fortunately, the crack itself appeared to have been glued securely, although I cleaned the crack a little further where needed. With the structural repair still sound, I then concentrated on restoring the finish, carefully touching up the varnish while trying to preserve the violin's original appearance.
